Long Distance Relationship
It truly is really hard to start a story that you base your life on, and then try to explain it to others. It is especially difficult to have others take it seriously when you are as young as I am.
My boyfriend, Dan, and I have been together for almost a year. When he was just a little boy he began taking karate lessons and became really interested in the Japanese culture. So at the age of eight, Dan had began learning Japanese and has become very fluent now, at the age of eighteen. When he was only fifteen years old he made the dicision to go to Japan as a foreign exchange student his senior year of high school. Which is the school year going on right now.
Dan had told me about the decision he made about our second month of our relationship. I had become furious with him for not telling me from the beginning. After I recognized the fact that he may be leaving me for a year without any visitation, I really never got over it. I always put it off and never dealt the reality of being alone again. And now that he is actually gone, it really hit me hard the first couple of days. Though, everyday he is gone I fall in love with him even more. I truly believe that not having any desire to see if there is a better guy or if I'm right to stay with him tells me that we are meant to be and truly in love. Dan trys to write me twice a week and call me once. It is a big change from seeing him everyday, all day to not seeing him even once for a whole year. No matter how young we may be, I really do believe we are IN love and will make it through this.
Every email I get from him puts a smile on my face the second I see that it is from him, my love. Dan isn't just another boyfriend who is just like every other guy, he is my best friend and the only one that truly knows me. We laugh together and we're spontaneous together and we both know what we want in our future. Everyday that goes by and he's not there with me, is a day closer to his arrival home. I believe that if a couple is truly in love with every bit of eachother, inside and out...they can conquer anything...including "just another long distant relationship." People at ALL ages go through this, and I want all the young ones to know that they aren't alone. Whether their partner is in college, Iraq, or just moved away...there are a lot of young adults going through this too. But anyone can make it if they really want to. Just being honest with yourself and your boyfriend/girlfriend makes all the difference.
