Long Distance Relationship
Story of the Week
Jason and I met right after the New Year when we were both living and working in San Diego, CA. On our first date we hit it off (what planned to be a short dinner turned into a NINE HOUR date). Though we knew I would be moving that summer to Japan, Jason and I decided to enjoy each other's company for the time given. I even moved into his apartment the last three months I was in San Diego.
July came and I moved to Tokyo. Six months later Jason moved to Bahrain (a small island near Saudi Arabi). Yet, through all the separation, we have managed to stay together, still faithful and even more in love, than 2 years ago!
It's not easy, and the statement that you have to work to make a relationship successful is so true! Jason and I call each other regualrly, live by email (yes, we have spent holidays and anniversaries and birthdays in a chatroom for hours), and send frequent letters and care packages (Japanese noodles and candies for him and baskets and small souveniers for me)...visiting is extremely difficult due to his job, and we only see each toerh one to two times per year :-(
I have found him to be my best friend. Whenever something good (or not so good) happens, my first thought is to tell Jason about it! The friendship that we have built has only added to the strength of our relationship. We have made communication and honetsy the top priorities for us.
Despite all the separation, we've gotten through it and in seven months we are moving to Texas together (we'll both be starting) new jobs. How nice it will be to live like a normal couple again!
