Long Distance Relationship
I met my boyfriend over four years ago on a moonlight night in the Bahamas. We were both on vacation (I had gone down there with a friend, so had he). It was instant. He came over to talk to me, and we just clicked. I mentioned his favorite baseball player of all time (and he said later that he thought it must have been fate). He and I spent the rest of our vacation together, and when I got back to Canada, he called me and we began corresponding, phoning, you name it!
The first six months were like a dream, but then reality set in. He had lost his job of 12 years standing the week we met, but he'd been happy about it. After all, it gave him the opportunity to pursue something he really was interested in. But then, his beloved father's cancer came back, and he died the following spring. That, combined with searching for a job, put a lot more stress on our relationship, as I wanted to be with him, but with the emotional stress of these two factors, that wasn't possible.
Then, early that same year, he found a job, and had to move to a different part of the state he's from. The job didn't utilize his skills in the slightest, and after 18 months, I persuaded him (it didn't take much) that for his own sake, he had to go after what he really wants, which is to be an engineering consultant. That involved a move to another city in the state. The first apartment he found had terrible neighbors, so he had to move. So, as it stands right now, he's taking courses, looking for a job, trying to adjust to the new city (which he knows only from having gone to college there 20 years ago).
Where we stand is that, well, I guess I'm waiting for him to get settled, but of course, the stress of that is tough on me here in Toronto. But I have a strong feeling that everything is going to work out in the end, or quite honestly, after all the trials and tribulations, I couldn't do it. If this doesn't test your commitment, I don't know what does.
