Long Distance Relationship
I am am stationed on the USS Kitty Hawk. Our home port is in Yokosuka, Japan. I met my boyfriend over a year ago who was also on the Kitty Hawk with me. He decided the Navy wasn't for him. So in December 03 he recieved an honorable discharge, and is living the civillian life in his hometown Seattle, Washington.
Due to being on a ship it is very hard to get leave to go back to the States. I won't be able to get back to the States until July at which point I will be transfering to a new duty station. My new duty station is going to be in Washington! So I will be about a 3 1/2 hour trip from my boyfriend. I get to take 30 days of leave before I have to report to Washington. So I am going to spend half of my leave with my boyfriend, and half with my family.
It is very hard at times dealing with the distance between us. Sometimes I get very angry if he didn't e-mail me that day. My anger doesn't last long, because I always remind myself that he's very busy with a new job, getting a place to live, and basically just getting his new life started. If you are in a long distance relationship just remember that you can not get angry with your mate for having his or her own life. It may be hard for you not being there every step, and knowing he or she is having fun, and you aren't there. Your mate can't post-pone his or her life for you. They still need to go on. That was the hardest thing for me to come to terms with.
It also helps if there is an end in sight. It is a lot of fun for us to talk about how we will feel when I step of the airplane, and there he is waiting for me with a huge hug. I am going to attack him the second I see him. It's also exciting when we are planning all the things we will do on leave togethor. We've all ready bought tickets to concerts, and other events.
Just be patient, and don't give up! Somedays it may be hard, but others aren't. A good phone conversation with him always helps me out when I'm feeling blue. There are days I feel like quitting, but I have the end in sight, and one day the wait will be over, and it will have been a wait well worth it. I will have a wonderfull man in my life next to my side every single day.
