Long Distance Relationship
Story of the Week

I first met my boyfriend, the love of my life, at the Videostore where we both worked part-time. I saw him for the first time when I went to the Videostore to rent movies and start working there in September,1999. At first, we really didn't like each other. I thought he was a snob and a quiet geek, but once I got to know him, he became my Prince Charming and I couldn't stop smiling because I knew I was in love.

He worked part-time, but he was a college student. He is from the Bahamas and I am from the US. I fell in love with him because he has a wonderful sense of humor and he is very intelligent. When we both didn't have a car and we both had to work at night, he would walk me home because he didn't want me walking home alone. It was just a coincident that we both lived in the same apartment complex. He had roommates and I lived alone. He live across the street from me in the same neighborhood.

We started seeing more of each other in August, 2000. I fell in love with him and could tell that he loves me too. We spend so much time together until he never stayed over his apartment since we met because he was always over my place. He was very good company. He became my best friend and we still are the best of friends. I was happy to be in love with him, he made me feel very special and safe until one day, he was graduating from college in May 2001 and he made the decision to go back home to the Bahamas to begin his career in his field of study. He wanted to start working immediately after graduation. I was so disappointed because I wanted him to stay with me.

So, now, he is in the Bahamas working and his job requires a lot of traveling and I am here in the US. We still email each other every once in a while and I sometimes call him, but it seem like it is still not enough and it is not the same. I want to feel that glow again like I use to feel when he was here with me. He has visit me twice since he had left and I was suppose to go visit him in the year of 2001, but the time I was suppose to go was during September 11 attack. I was suppose to leave two days after the attack. It would have been my very first flight to the Bahamas. I was so excited, but I was also scared of flying. I love him and he loves me still.

I guess what keep us together is knowing in our hearts that we love each other.
