New Long-Distance Relationship
Andrew and I have been together for almost 8 years. We went through 4 years of long distance as we attended different universities for our undergraduate degrees. This is when my best friend bought me your first book as a gift to help me understand the emotions I was dealing with.
Upon graduation and one year of living in the same city again, we thought our long distance journey was over.....we were wrong! Andrew got accepted in a university for his Masters in another city. Since we had gone through 4 years of long distance, we thought we could handle another 10 months. However just before receiving his acceptance papers for his Masters program, Andrew was diagnosed with a rare liver disease called Primary Schlerosing Colingitis. This is a very complicated disease which will result in transplantation in the near future. We decided that his Masters was a great program and he accepted.
Just 4 months ago Andrew proposed to me! Currently we are in the beginning stages of planning our wedding and trust me, it is the most difficult task when we are living in different cities! Andrew gradutes in 3 months and we are so excited because next summer (2004) we will be able to be together......forever!
Andrew and I will have gone through 5 years in total of long distance and I think we have learned more about ourselves and each other than most couples we know. We have learned how to be independent individuals as well as a united couple.
Andrew is my soul mate...he is the one chosen for me. We've struggled through a lot of obstacles and our struggle is only beginning with his disease. However we are one step closer to our ultimate goal.....marriage and life together.

I am in a long distance relationship. My boyfriend is from Nassau, Bahamas. We have met in the Videostore where we both worked for the Summer. He was my neighbor because he lived across the street from me. His name is Randy.
Randy walked me home from work at night. He was a college student, but after he graduated from college, he was offered a job at the Atlantis Resort in Nassau, Bahamas. He went to a college in Raleigh, North Carolina. He was excited about the job and he asked me what I thought. I told Randy that I would support him in every way, but I knew that this separation would be heartbreaking for the both of us.
When he left, I thought I was going to be fine, but then, it hit me three weeks later after he left. I start feeling lonely. I wanted to talk to him everyday, but I had to worry about the expensive phone bills. I start buying calling cards to call, but the buying calling card started to get expensive. He would call me almost every weekend.
We tried to email each other everday when we both had time. The only time I was able to email him was at work. He is sending me a plane ticket in September to come visit him. I can't wait to see him. I am so in love with him and he loves me too. I have had my ups and downs, but I just want to see him everyday and I know I can't. When I am alone in my apartment, I want to just pick up the phone and call him. Just hearing the sound of his voice makes me happy.
I am trying my best to be strong and always wondering if this LDR is going to work, but I guess the only real thing is holding me together is knowing that I love him and that he loves me too. "Abscence makes the heart grow fonder." All I can say is this, I feel so close to him because I know he loves me and I love him. I hope this LDR works out and I believe it will.
At first, I didn't think it would work, but I have realized that I need to have more faith in our relationship. Without love, trust, and communication, your LDR is not going to work. You have to keep the communication going. Email, write love letters, or write a poem to your love one to let him know you still love him.
The key thing is letting him know that you still love him.
